Race and Milwaukee’s Violent Tensions: Discussion

Statement made by a few individuals:

“Dear Riverwest and Greater Milwaukee Community,

We, a small group of friends and concerned individuals sparked by the looting of the BP gas station and beating of a crowd of mostly white kids by a crowd of mostly black kids that took place on July 3rd, invite you to participate in a discussion regarding how the city is so separated along race and class lines creating increasingly violent tensions. We hope that this discussion can be a start of a much larger conversation that is direly needed.

These events have brought to the foreground often neglected and ignored problems Milwaukee as a city must face, being the fourth poorest and most segregated of the major cities in the US.

These problems will not only not go a way, they will and have gotten worse by refusing to confront them.”
