The first (hopefully) monthly ‘Bike-In Brunch Ride‘ is on Sunday, January 15th. The group bike ride will be meet 10am at Fuel Cafe, ending at the Cream City Collective for a delicious, affordable, and vegetarian-friendly brunch.

The purpose of the ‘Bike-In Brunch Ride’ is to bring friends together, both new and old, to enjoy each other’s company while exploring the city on bicycle, sharing a healthy meal together,and building a stronger community in Milwaukee.

The ride will be be at a casual pace, open to anyone and everyone. Please show up on time, grab a coffee at Fuel, but be ready to leave by 10:15am. We’ll ride for roughly an hour, or 6-10 mile at most.

If you can’t make the ride, we’ll be serving brunch at the CCC from 10AM-1PM.  A $5 donation gets you a plate of delicious food and all proceeds go toward paying the CCC’s rent.  Come out to ride and support the space!

This short film documents one French person’s experiences taking over abandoned property and living collectively just prior to 2006.  The film is a heartening snapshot of a struggle toward collective life. 

Also showing are portions of two other films including the film De Stad Was Van Ons <the city was ours>.  De Stad Was Van Ons  is a thrilling feature length documentary about the explosive rise of squatting in Amsterdam in the late 1970′s and early 80′s.  In it, many squatters offer candid  retellings of their transformative experiences defending  their homes against the police. Additionally, the translated portion of the unfinished 2006 film Okupa! Autonomy and Autogestion in Occupied Social Centers in Southern Europe will show.  Okupa! is an exciting piece particularly because it features squatter women offering some interesting perspectives on reasons for squatting inspired by ideas of Deleuze & Guattari.

This march will leave from Garden Park and will go through Riverwest.

On November 2nd, three people — a UWM student, a UWM teaching assistant, and a journalist — were arrested for marching peacefully in the streets in solidarity with the Oakland general strike. Thankfully, they have since been released, but this event served as a grim reminder that, at least for now, these streets belong to the police.

Come out and show the police that we don’t need their permission to be dissatisfied!
